Origin Asia, China, Japan


Scientific Name Angelica sinensis - Angelica acutiloba


Description - Dong quai grows wild in Asia, and is widely cultivated for medicinal purposes in China (Angelica sinensis) and in Japan ( Angelica acutiloba). - Best known for treating menstrual problems which include easing cramps, regulating the cycle, and suppressing PMS, by keeping the uterus healthy , and balancing hormones. - Reduces hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause. - Also helps widen blood vessels, which increases the blood flow to various organs. - Rich in Vitamins A, B12 and E, it may help prevent anemia in men and women.


Uses - relieving menstrual cramps, hot flashes, PMS, - maintain a proper hormone balance - blood cleanser and purifier - helps to overcome vitamin deficiencies - effective treatment for migraine headaches.


Notes Dong quai should not be used by pregnant women or those who are breast feeding. People on anticoagulant drugs should not take dong quai without consulting a doctor. Dong quai may increase your skin' sensitivity to the sun.


Possible Side Effects Dong quai may have a mild laxative effect and may promote heavy menstrual bleeding. Increased sun protect may be required when using dong quai because it's root contains compounds called psoralens that can make some people more sensitive to sunlight.
